The Resourceful Youth Network Initiative (RYNI), a leading youth empowerment and human development organization, has issued a passionate and strongly-worded condemnation of the recurring wave of violence and killings sweeping across Benue State and other parts of Nigeria’s northern belt.
In a statement released by its Executive Director, Dr. Lawson Obazenu, the organization decried the “continued bloodletting and mindless killings” as a gross violation of human dignity and a sobering indictment of Nigeria’s fragile security architecture.
“This latest reprehensible act — which occurred in Yelewata Town, Benue State, from the evening of Friday, June 13 to the morning of Saturday, June 14, 2025 — is one of far too many. It is not merely a tragedy for Benue; it is a deep wound to the soul of our nation,” Dr. Obazenu declared.
The organization drew attention to the broader context of violence affecting Nigeria’s North-Central and North-Eastern regions, noting that the horrors in Benue are mirrored in Katsina, Zamfara, and other states grappling with insurgency, banditry, and ethnic conflicts.
“These killings are senseless and destabilizing. They strike at the very heart of our national peace and shared humanity,” the statement emphasized.
RYNI called on all tiers of government — local, state, and federal — to rise above bureaucratic inertia and implement workable, strategic security measures that can stem the tide of violence and restore public trust.
“There must be an immediate and coordinated end to these nationwide bloodbaths,” Dr. Obazenu urged. “Failure to act decisively could tip the nation toward an even greater humanitarian catastrophe.”
The organization stressed that these recurring tragedies demand more than sympathy — they demand concrete action, intelligence-driven security operations, and community-level engagement to rebuild trust and secure vulnerable regions.
While unequivocally condemning the violence, RYNI also expressed heartfelt sympathy to the affected families and communities.
“The innocent lives lost — youths, men, women, and children — will not be forgotten. We mourn them not as strangers, but as fellow Nigerians bound by shared humanity and a common destiny.”
RYNI called on civil society organizations, religious leaders, traditional institutions, and the international community to join in amplifying calls for justice, accountability, and urgent governmental intervention.
“In this dark hour, we stand with the resilient people of Benue. We will continue to speak out until justice speaks — loudly, clearly, and without delay.”
As a youth-led organization committed to peace, equity, and national development, RYNI reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for a safer, more secure Nigeria — a nation where every citizen, regardless of geography or identity, can live free from fear and violence.
